Continuing on with our theme of The Basics I next want to turn my eye to eye-creams (yes that was corny)

Eye cream is beyond important yet often overlooked. And when women do look at doing it, it is often late. Without a doubt the first area of deterioration I see when I am doing people’s makeup is around the eyes. Good moisturizer – including sunscreen and eye cream – are essential to ones beauty regimen in my opinion. And the necessity of this intensifies with fair-er skin tones. I think young women are in denial of how early the lines around the eyes really start to develop. I have had models in my chair in their late teens that were already starting to develop fine lines. Now granted, there are likely some lifestyle issues factoring into that as well (if you smoke…) but still. That is REALLY young to be developing wrinkles and as of right now once you have a wrinkle there is no way to get rid of it. Protect your skin now as much as you can and stop those lines before they get started! These are some of my best picks in eye-creams. This is in no particular order as different eye creams address different issues…
1 ) Earth Science Skincare Azulene Eye Cream
This is my personal favorite eye-cream and what I have used on myself for a number of years. Azulene is an organic compound present in German Chamomile amongst other plants (if you should happen upon a blue Lactarius Indigo mushroom, please leave it alone unless you know what you’re doing). Azulene has a cooling and anti-inflammatory property which has made it a popular cosmetics ingredient for many years. It is also what gives this cream its pretty blue color. In addition, Azulene is also reasonably effective on dark circles. The texture of this cream is very lightweight and non-oily, yet very very nourishing. Apply before you go to bed at night and wake up to smooth, pretty and moist eyelids and under-eyes.
2 ) Yes To Cucumbers Soothing Eye Gel
Another in the soothing category, this product uses the well documented power of Cucumber combined with Green Tea extract and good ole Chamomile to soothe, hydrate and brighten the eye area with a cooling sensation you can actually feel. This product does differ from the Earth Science cream in that it is a gel. If you find creams too heavy, or if you are concerned about how a cream would effect your oiler skin, this could be a product worth trying.
3 ) Boots No7 Lifting & Firming Eye Cream
If you are already starting to see signs of loss of elasticity in your eyes, it is time to step it up a notch. Boots has several different lines under its brand-name, but the No7 line is the one most readily available in the United States. This eye cream by Boots No7 contains peptides (amino acid bonds), vitamins (notably vitamin C which is the building block of collagen which is essential to skin structure), and seaweed extracts (hydrating, moisturizing, firming and anti-bacterial to boot!) in a power packed formula. It is lightweight in texture and absorbs easily. This cream is actually meant for use in the morning as well as at night.
4 ) Kinerase Intensive Eye Cream
No matter what you do, if you are lucky enough to have a long life you will show signs of aging. Kinerase has long been one of my favorite lines for older skin. The entire line is based upon the N6-Furfuryladenine complex, which is a plant complex that encourages cell division. As one ages cellular turnover slows down. By increasing cell activity it is possible to improve texture and appearance of skin. This is easily the most expensive of the products I’ve listed, but oftentimes to get high power product that actually works one must pay. This is also the most emollient of the creams so it is definitely best used at night.
So let’s say you have not been using an eye cream on a regular basis and you need something to make your eyes look great RIGHT NOW.
5 ) MAC Cosmetics Fast Response Eye Cream
Like the other creams mentioned, this MAC Cosmetics cream contains various plant extracts and vitamins to hydrate and brighten the eye area. It is a non-greasy, hydrating formulation designed to absorb quickly. Where this differs from the other creams is that it is turbo charged by Caffeine to make it work fast. When the eye area has been neglected but needs to look good fast fast fast, a few dots of this gently applied to the eye area will help make it appear as though you never miss your nightly eye cream. PRO TIP: This cream was designed to be used by makeup artists right before a makeup application on clients whose eye areas may be dry/under-hydrated/puffy, etc. So not only is it fast acting, it will not make your makeup slip, crease, or otherwise go crazy on you.
